§ 2-45. Ambulance service department.

  • (a)

    Established. There shall be established a volunteer ambulance service department under the control of the city council, of which the mayor shall have general supervision. The present constitution and bylaws of the department shall be continued. Future changes shall be subject to the city council's confirmation and approval.

    (b)

    Director; assistance director. The volunteer ambulance service department shall be headed by a director appointed by the city council. The director, in turn, shall appoint an assistant director and secretary. The terms of the officers shall be two years commencing on February 1 of every odd-numbered year. The director shall have general superintendence of the department and the custody of all the property used and maintained for the purposes of said department. The director shall see that the same are kept in proper order and that all rules and regulations and all provisions of the laws of the state and city ordinances relative to ambulance services are duly observed. In case of the absence or disability of the director for any cause, the assistant director shall exercise all the powers, perform all the duties and be subject to all the responsibilities of the director. It shall also be the duty of the director of the ambulance service department, on or before January 1 in each year, to file a detailed inventory with the city clerk of all the property used and maintained for the department.
