§ 109-16. Permitted signs by district.

  • (a)

    Residential districts. Within residential zoning districts, RR (rural residence district), R-l (single-family residential district) and R-2 (multifamily residential district) a sign is permitted per site as follows:

    (1)

    General rule. One monument sign, one building sign and two temporary signs. The total site signage for all signs, permanent or temporary, shall not exceed 24 square feet or ten percent of the area of the front face of the building on the site, whichever is least. Building facade calculations are noncumulative. The height of the monument sign may not exceed eight feet above grade. Illuminated signs and pylon signs are not allowed.

    (2)

    Special provisions; schools, religious facilities and institutional uses. One monument sign, one building sign and two temporary signs. The total site signage for all signs, permanent or temporary, shall not exceed 60 square feet or 15 percent of the area of the front face of the building on the site, whichever is least. Building facade calculations are noncumulative. The height of the monument sign may not exceed eight feet above grade. Illuminated signs if used, shall be shielded from view, be focused upon the sign to avoid stray lighting, and shall be directed away from adjacent residential areas.

    (b)

    Business districts. Within a commercial zoning district, a sign is permitted on a site as follows:

    (1)

    General commercial district (B-1) and light commercial district (B-3). One monument sign, two building signs, and one window sign, and two temporary signs. The total site signage for all signs, temporary or permanent, shall not exceed 15 percent of each building facade that faces a public street on the site. Building facade calculations are noncumulative. A pylon sign is not permitted in the B-1 or B-3 district.

    (2)

    Neighborhood commercial district (B-2). One freestanding sign, either monument or pylon, two building signs, two window signs and two temporary signs. The total site signage for all signs, temporary or permanent, shall not exceed 20 percent of each building facade that faces a public street on the site. Building facade calculations are noncumulative. The height of the freestanding sign may not exceed 40 feet above grade.

    (c)

    Industrial districts. Within the I-1 (light industrial district) and the I-2 (general industrial district) a sign is permitted on a site as follows: One freestanding sign either monument or pylon, two building signs and two temporary signs. The total site signage for all signs, temporary or permanent, shall not exceed 15 percent of each building facade that faces a public street on the site. Building facade calculations are noncumulative. The height of the freestanding sign may not exceed 25 feet above grade.
